Raymond Lee Carter

Funeral services for Raymond Lee Carter, 79, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mardy Guidry and Brother Darrell Cranford officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Carter was born February 18, 1933 in Sherman, Texas to the late J.B. and Nellie B. Carter, and died Saturday, August 4, 2012 in a local hospital. He had resided in Lufkin for 45 years.

Mr. Carter graduated from Sherman High School, and recently attended his 60th class reunion. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired truck driver. Mr. Carter was a member of the Angelina County Senior Citizens Activity Center, where he enjoyed calling Bingo. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Mr. Carter was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Lola Carter of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Mark Oliver of Pollok, Anita and Bernard Lavaud, Lora Jane Pierson, all of Houston, and Cynthia and George Peoples of Nacogdoches; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Shari Sessum of Elkhart, James and Holly Sessum of Mineola and Rickey and Jamie Sessum of Lufkin; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Carter of Sherman; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Colton Denney; two brothers; and three sisters.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bernard Lavaud, David Sessum, James Sessum, Rickey Sessum, George Peoples, Mark Oliver and Daniel Porteeba.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
