Dolena Maude "Dolly" Burdick, age 85 of Kenyon, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, April 12, 2011 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Dolly was born on October 27, 1925 in St. Charles, MN, the daughter of Norman H. and Isabell B. (Reeves) Sims. She attended school through the 8th grade in St. Charles, and she then moved with her parents to Northfield in 1939. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1943. After graduating, she worked as a bookkeeper at the Tri-County Coop in Northfield for three years. Dolena married William C. Burdick on February 15, 1947 in Northfield, and they farmed in the Dennison area, as well as Pine Island and Wanamingo. She had been active in the Cherry Grove Extension Group for many years, and enjoyed her Tuesday coffee group. She was primarily a homemaker, but had worked as a clerk in several stores, including Ben Franklin in Northfield and the Bombay Store. She enjoyed her family and flower gardening, as well as playing cards, traveling and shopping with her grandchildren. She enjoyed afternoon drives with her husband, looking at deer, turkeys and other birds. Dolly will always be remembered for her kind spirit, and her thoughtful manner when it came to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Bill on November 18, 2002; son, Kenneth; and brother, Harold Sims. She is survived by her son, Curtis (Darlene) of Cannon Falls; daughter-in-law, Vicki Burdick of Wanamingo; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Jim Weideman), Jeff (Cindi Greske), Melinda (Brian Sindt), Melissa, Andy and Erin Burdick; great-granddaughter, Kylie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Olive Sims of Decorah, IA, Dorothy Veek of Red Wing, Katherine "Kate" (Donald) Baker of Oronoco, and Edward (Ann) Burdick of Moorfield, West Virginia; nieces and nephews, and many longtime friends. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, with Rev. Paul Reppe officiating. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. at the Northfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home. There will also be visitation on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer's Association. Active pallbearers will be James, Philip, Michael and Corey Sims, Steve Ransom, and Brian Anfinson. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Rebecca, Jeff, Melinda, Melissa, Andy and Erin Burdick.
