Dorothy Marie Wever of Overland Park, KS went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb 11, 2012 at the Garden Terrace Nursing Facility. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held Wed. Feb 15 at 10:00 am. Both will be at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel. Dorothy was born June 19, 1925 in Kansas City, MO. She was the oldest of four children born to John and Daisy Carter. She graduated from Central High School. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Ken for 34 yrs, until his passing in 1980. They attended Agnes Avenue Church in their early years, later the Shawnee Methodist Church, and then Full Faith Church of Love/Cross Points Church. They both loved the Lord. Dorothy worked in the telephone order department at The Jones Store Co, and enjoyed working with the girls in the office. She retired as the department head after decades of service. Of course, shopping at The Jones Store was her favorite hobby. Dorothy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother who opened her heart and home to family and friends. She loved to read and watch old movies.. a love she passed on to her girls. Her favorite holiday was Christmas Eve so she could see all her family and shower them with gifts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lee Wever, a brother, Charles Carter, sister, Diane Castle Owen, and her parents. She is survived by a brother, Larry Carter, brother-in-laws Don Wever (Thelma), and Sam Owen. She leaves five loving daughters; Cynthia Harnden (Jim), Janet Zarda (Johnny), Marcia Jones, Debi Edwards, and Carrie Shechter (Eric). She was the proud and loving grandma of 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Aunt Dorothy so loved her many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the caring staff at Garden Terrace for making her days full of activities and friends, and for all their support to our family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missions Ministry of Cross Points Church, 6824 Lackman Rd., Shawnee, Kansas 66217.
