Elwyn G. Schommer, age 87, of Malone, died on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Friendship Manor in Shakopee, MN. He was born April 18, 1925 in the Town of Stockbridge, son of the late John & Ruth (Strebe) Schommer. Elwyn married Janet E. Gunderson on December 26, 1952 in Manitowoc. As a young man, Elwyn began working for his father's livestock trucking operation and he continued to operate that family business until his retirement in his 60's. Elwyn was a member of Faith Alliance Church in Chilton and in his younger years, he had traveled the area playing saxophone in an orchestra. Throughout his life, Elwyn could be seen frequently offering his musical talents on the clarinet or saxophone during worship services at Faith Alliance. Elwyn was very passionate about his faith and used nearly every opportunity he could to share Christ with all those he met along life's journey. He was very supportive of missions around the world, especially Child Evangelism Fellowship; an organization which proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ to youth around the world. Elwyn's great love of Jesus, allowed him to be the greatest husband, father and grandfather he could be. He stood loyally and faithfully by his wife's side during sickness and in health. He prayed continually for his children's well being and frequently offered them wise counsel and Godly advice. He lovingly praised God for the gift of his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by those who loved him on this Earth. Survivors include his children: Rev. Jerry (Debra) Schommer of Eagan, MN, Jon (Lisa) Schommer of Woodbury, MN, Janelle (Kenneth) Ludzack of Shakopee, MN, Jay (Sandy) Schommer of Chicago, IL; 11 grandchildren: Jason (Mindy) Schommer, Jessica (Zac) Mernin, Jennifer Schommer, Dave Schommer, Emily Schommer, Heather (Brian) Gingerich, Rebecca Ludzack, Melissa Ludzack, Sam Ludzack, Charlie Schommer, & Parker Schommer; and 2 great-grandchildren: Calvin & Sadie Schommer. Elwyn was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife: Janet; and a sister: Dorothy Schommer. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Faith Alliance Church (468 N. State St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Jim Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Rothmann Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 am until 12:45 pm on Friday, February 1, 2013. Memorials given in the name of Elwyn G. Schommer are appreciated for Missions through the Faith Alliance Church.
