Janis Marie Pace was born March 22, 1946 in Camden, Arkansas to the late Ernest and Geneva Pace. At an early age, Janis joined St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend LR. Dunn. While a devoted member, she served as the Sunday School Secretary, Announcing Secretary, and sang in the youth and gospel choirs. Janis graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. In 1967, she graduated from Bishop College {now Paul Quinn} in Dallas, Texas. She became a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Omega chapter in 1966. In 1970, Janis moved to Little Rock, AR and worked for the State Department of Education. Then, she went on to work for the State Department of Finance and Administration as a Personnel Analyst. While living in Little Rock, she was an active member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and sang in the choir. In 1974, Janis gave birth to Renee Denyse, the love of her life. Her dedication to her daughter was undeniable and evident to all by the special closeness they shared with one another. Janis moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1979. She joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Kenneth A. Bowen. She sang beautifully in the gospel choir and lead the song "If God is Dead" almost every Easter Sunday. Janis was employed by Johnson Controls from 1979-1989 in the Human Resources department. In 1989, she went on to work as an Accounts Administrator for Flexo- graphics, Inc. until she retired on June 30, 2011. On August 10, 2011, Janis moved to Bowie, MD to live out her retirement with her daughter and granddaughter. While she loved all that the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area had to offer, she especially loved Ben's Chili Bowl where she always ordered a half-smoke with chili, mustard and onions. The Lord called Janis home on June 17, 2012 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD after a brief battle with liver cancer. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Renee Denyse, Bowie, MD; granddaughter, Lauren Simone, Bowie, MD; one sister, Norma Jean Williams, Detroit, MI; one brother, Ernest Johnson Pace, II (Carol), Milwaukee, WI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
