Horton, Larry, died Friday, July 13, 2012 at University of Tennessee Medical Center after a many months struggle with cancer. He was born in West Virginia, the son of a coal miner. Larry was an adventurer who loved to travel locally and abroad; he made friends wherever he went. His lifelong passion was sailing. He always wanted to learn and was always ready to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors. Larry wanted to share his knowledge with others, especially young people. He started his education and career in respiratory therapy and then later got a degree from the University of Tennessee in civil engineering. Larry served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Owen William Horton and Retha Mariah Horton. Larry is survived by his wife, Wanda Horton; step-daughter, Kimberly; step-sons, Doug and Kolby and four grandchildren. He also leaves behind sisters, sisters-in-law, brother, brothers-in-law, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and a lot of very close friends. Online condolences may be sent to www.rosemortuary.com.
