Ruth E. Gates, 86, of Bethlehem, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Holy Family Manor. Born in Pittston, PA on September 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Redington) Martin. She was the wife of the late Paul J. Gates. Ruth was employed as a sales clerk by Hess's department store in Allentown for over 25 years. She was a member of the Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church. To many of her family and friends she was known as "Grams". She was full of life, and her spirit will live on in our hearts forever. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Eleanor Gates-Stroman and husband Donald of Plymouth Meeting, PA; grandchildren, Kelly Eddinger of Bethlehem, P.J. Eddinger of Endicott, NY, Alyssa Stroman of West Orange, NJ, and Laura Stroman of Ambler, PA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Paulette Eddinger; and sister, Eleanor Martin Adonizio. Viewing hours will be held, in the funeral home, on Thursday May 5th from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Friday May 6th from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Friday at 10:15 a.m. and followed by a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem 18018. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery of Bethlehem. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
